Static Electricity

ELECTROSCOPES
#501-5 Electroscope, Flask
A practical and economical electroscope consisting of aluminum leaves mounted on a metal rod held by a rubber stopper in a 250ml flask.  This assembly can be supplied with either of the two types of Rod Assemblies listed below.  Instructions provided.

#501-6 Electroscope, Rod Assembly. With Alligator Clip
#501-11 Electroscope, Rod Assembly. With Nail Head

#501-7 Electroscope, Metal Case.
This electroscope box is made of anodized aluminum with glass windows.  The glass plates prevent an erratic motion of the leaves by shielding them, thereby causing leaves to react only to charges which are intentionally brought near them.  Size 5 1/8" x 3 5/8".  Instructions provided.

#501-8 Electroscope, with Electrostatic Balls.
Electrostatic balls are suspended on an aluminum hook attached to an acrylic base.  When a static change is brought near the balls, they react to the electrical charge.  Instructions provided.

#501-8A Electroscope, Silvered Electrostatic Balls Only.

#501-9 Electroscope, Enclosed Unit.
A brass ball sits atop a plastic cap, from which very fine copper wires are suspended and to which the electrostatic balls are attached.  The entire unit is sealed in a clear, plastic cylinder which shields air currents.  Instructions are provided.

#501-12 Electroscope, Solid State.
Use either the built in LED or attach your own meter to measure electrostatic changes up to three feet away.  Built using solid state circuitry and requires one 9 volt battery.  Instructions provided.

#501-FOIL Electroscope Foil Only. . .pk/12

#501-13 Electroscope Case, Gold Foil Type
Gold Foil Electroscope is a classic in physics demonstrations and science classes.  This unit is bigger and easier for the student to use than the regular Flask Electroscope.  The leaf is a little larger and the wide radius of swing provides a visual and sensitive unit.  The metal case is strong and stable to resist damage.

#510 Leyden Jar, Separable
This unit is effective in helping students to understand the function of a dielectric and the build up of static electricity.  The inner and outer metal conductors are separated by a plastic insulator cup.  These pieces slide easily in and out of one another.  The inner conductor may be removed and the charge measured.  When the conductors are replaced the charge is transferred back to them.  3 piece set.  Instructions provided

ELECTROSTATIC SETS
#506 Electrostatic Kit.
This economical set of materials is ideal for demonstrating static electricity.  Each kit is supplied with 3 friction rods, one fur pad, flannel pad, silk pad, wool pad, 3 balloons and 10 ft of string.  Instructions provided.

#507 Electrostatic Lab.
This kit includes Faraday's ice pail experiment.  Two electroscopes with interchangeable spheres and disks are included to demonstrate charging by induction, repulsion and attraction of charges, discharge occurrences from points, surface distribution of charges and charging properties of different materials.  Also included is an electrophorus, Faraday cage, electrostatic balls, neon lamp, transfer ball, various friction rods and instructions.

#508 Wimshurst Machine, Deluxe
For generating electric charges and high voltage sparks.  The unit is built with cast iron supports and pulleys.  The leyden jars are a large size and the disc is a clear acrylic material.  On the external side of each disc, aluminum segments are mounted.  This is an improvement over the aluminum foil that is common with other units.  Dimensions:  345mm x 345mm x 395mm.  Weight 2.05 kg.  Instructions provided.

#508-BLT Wimshurst Machine, Belt Only
#508-BSH Wimshurst Machine, Brushes Only
#508-LJ Wimshurst Machine, Leyden Jar Only

#509 Wimshurst Machine, Economy
This unit is built following the basic design of most Wimhurst machines but with economy in mind.  The stand, leyden jars, pulleys, and two handles are all molded from durable plastic.  Produces sparks 2-1/2"" long, under  appropriate conditions.

#1869 18th Century Electrostatic Machine.
The Electrostatic Kit (developed by the Bakken Institute) is introduced by a professional videotape demonstrating crucial, early, experiments, using authentic equipment.  A curriculum book guides the instructor and students through the experiments.  The kit includes most of the apparatus found in an electrical laboratory of the 18 century.  Included are rods and cloths for producing vitreous and resinous electricity.

#505 Faraday's Cage Kit.
Teachers will find the demonstration useful in the study of potential build-up inside a conductor cage.  Two experiments that can be performed are the lightening rod effect and surface charge distribution.  The unit measures 270mm x 120mm.  Instructions included.

FRICTION PADS
#506-1 Friction Pads, Animal Fur, 3" x 5" (approx. size)
#506- 8 Friction Pads, Animal Fur, 9" x 11" (approx. size)
#506-2 Friction Pads, Silk Pad, 6" x 6"
#506-3 Friction Pads, Wool Pad, 6" x 6"
#506-5 Friction Pads, Flannel Pad, 6" x 6"

FRICTION RODS
#506-7 Friction Rod, Lucite
#506-4 Friction Rod, Ebonite (hard rubber)
#603-1 Friction Rod, Hollow, Glass
#603-2 Friction Rod, Solid, Glass
#603-3 Friction Rod, Half Ground, Glass

#501-14 Van de Graaff Generator with accessories
Introducing a new Van de Graaff Genrator that is both high quality, variable speed and affordably priced.  Everything is visible to the student with this remarkable unit.  Complete with many accessories such as a discharge wand, extra belt, pithball & stand, discharge needles, comb, spinning wheel, neon tester, synthetic hair with plug, aluminum cup and static chamber.  8" x 11" x 24"  (10 lbs.)
